Education Outdoor Engagement Opportunities

Unleash the Brilliance won the No Child Left Inside (NCLI) $150,000 grant in May 2021 to host our Unleash the Brilliance Outdoor Youth Experience Program. The NCLI grant will fund an expansion to our existing 3-year Environmental Justice Outdoor program by 80 students—from 20 students to 100 students participating in the Environmental Justice Outside Activities. In the first year of the program, UTB will train 20 youth to act as peer mentors. They will participate in a series of program activities at the Cedar Springs Lodge. In the second year, UTB will recruit 80 additional students mentored by the 20 original youth.

100 middle/high school-aged youth will participate in our program. Many have not been able to experience the outdoors in a way that is truly meaningful, so school districts will coordinate with UTB to select students for the UTB Outdoor Youth Experience Program by referring under-supported students of color, students in low-income families, and students that come from a single-parent household exposed to extreme adverse experiences due to social and economic inequalities.
